此面唐代铭文神兽镜,圆形,重706g,直径为18cm。镜体厚重,正面明显外凸,呈弧形,背面内凹,镜钮突出,有光泽。镜面主要纹饰为高浮雕神兽,钮座外以单线勾勒轮廓,以浮雕手法体现仙家、神人、龙虎和知音传说中的伯牙与钟子期等人物主题纹饰,内容深挚,人物众多繁而不乱,凭证排列位置,显得尊卑有序,主次明确。纹饰崎岖错落,凹凸有致,立体感强烈;制作细腻细腻,主题纹饰与辅助纹饰相映成趣,重点突出,繁缛而井然有致,组成一幅神兽与传说相互融会的主题图景,既承载着富厚的文化内在,又具有极高的审美情趣。东汉至三国时期,天下有数个较大的铸镜中央,如浙江嘉兴、江苏徐州、湖北鄂州等,都铸造了大量的神兽镜。这件神兽镜为长江中下游的鄂州所铸,纹饰纤细优美,光洁照人,铸造优异,包浆丰盛,品相俱佳,体现了唐代时期镜工之铸镜工艺的精湛水平。

This Tang Dynasty inscription mirror is round, 706g in weight and 18cm in diameter. The mirror body is thick, the front is obviously convex, curved, the back is concave, the knob is prominent and glossy. The mirror is mainly decorated with high relief gods and beasts, and the button seat is outlined with a single line. The relief technique reflects the theme decorations of the immortals, gods and people, dragons and tigers and bosom friends in the legend of Boya and Zhong Ziqi. The contents are profound, the figures are numerous and not disorderly, the vouchers are arranged in an orderly manner, and the primary and secondary are clear. The decoration is rugged, concave and convex, and has a strong sense of three-dimensionality; the production is exquisite and delicate, the theme decoration and auxiliary decoration are interesting, the focus is prominent, the complexity is identical, forming a thematic picture of the fusion of God and beast and legend, which not only carries rich cultural intrinsic, but also has a very high aesthetic interest. From the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Three Kingdoms, there were several large mirror-casting centers in the world, such as Jiaxing in Zhejiang, Xuzhou in Jiangsu, and Ezhou in Hubei, all of which had cast a large number of beast-god mirrors. The mirror was cast in Ezhou in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Its decoration is delicate and graceful, bright and shining, excellent in casting, rich in slurry and excellent in quality. It reflects the exquisite level of mirror casting technology in Tang Dynasty.
